How much tile adhesive do I need?
How much tile adhesive do I need? Many clients will meet this problem whenever they are trying to do tiling.
Mesiden Ceramic tile is a kind of decoration material commonly used by people in decoration and is a good helper for home decoration. However, the bonding layer of the ceramic tile will easily get hollowing or even falling off easily after some times. What should we do at this situation? All the friends who have undergone decoration should have heard the workers talk about it or suggest to use tile glue to lay the tiles. When they hear the word "glue", they may worry: what kind of glue is there? Is it toxic? How durable is it? How does it compare to the cement mortar that was commonly used for tiling ... Now let ’s talk about how to properly use tile adhesive to bond the tiles more reliable.
1. What is tile adhesive?
Tile adhesive, also known as cement-based ceramic tile adhesive, is a polymer-modified cement bonding mortar that can effectively paste various types of ceramic tiles. The main raw materials are cement, sand and polymer latex powder and other additives, because of its convenient construction and bonding strength High, water-resistant, freeze-thaw-resistant, and aging-resistant properties are widely used, used to replace ordinary cement mortar or cement paste to paste ceramic tiles.
Tile adhesive is divided into two grades according to the difference in bonding strength, Mesiden C1 grade with weak adhesion and Mesiden C2 grade with strong adhesion. Different grades are suitable for different types of tiles. There are still some ceramic tile adhesives whose performance indexes do not meet the standard requirements, which are called non-standard ceramic tile adhesives in the industry. The bonding strength of Mesiden C1 grade tile adhesive and Mesiden C2 grade tile adhesive can meet the requirements of relevant standards. However, non-standard products and cement pastes have low bonding strength and do not meet the standard requirements. Using them for tiling will result in a great risk of falling off.
In addition to the requirements for bonding strength, when laying large and heavy bricks, there are also special requirements for tile adhesives in terms of anti-slip, long drying time, flexibility and other special properties.
2. Why we will have to use Mesiden tile adhesive?
In the past, workers used cement mortar or cement mortar to lay tiles. Why use tile glue now?
The answer is that with the continuous development of ceramic tile manufacturing technology, ceramic tiles have changed a lot. Firstly, the water absorption rate of ceramic tiles is much lower than before. The water absorption rate of the back of the ceramic tiles or glazed tiles used before is very high. There are many small holes on the back of the tile. When the tiles are laid, the cement slurry easily enters the small holes. After hardening, the ceramic tile and the substrate are bonded together. Most ceramic tiles are dense, high-strength, and extremely low water absorption. The cement slurry cannot enter the ceramic tile to form a mechanical anchor. Therefore, professional adhesive products with stronger adhesion are needed. Second, the tiles are getting bigger and bigger. The shrinkage of the base layer and mortar layer is large, and the size change of the ceramic tile is small. The shrinkage stress caused by the shrinkage of the mortar needs to be released at the brick joint. However, the brick joints cannot fully release the stress caused by the shrinkage of the base layer, which will destroy the adhesion between the tile adhesive and the tile, resulting in the hollowing and falling off of the tile.
3. How to choose the right tile adhesive?
The choice of tile adhesive usually needs to comprehensively consider the four factors of the location of the tile, the base layer, the water absorption rate of the tile and the size of the tile. Generally, places that need to use Mesiden C2 grade tile adhesive are: external walls that have been exposed to wind, sun, and heat for a long time, swimming pools that have been exposed to water for a long time, and elevator rooms that need to resist vibration for a long time. There will be no safety risks such as debricking on the ground. Mesiden C1 grade tile glue can be used on ordinary cement floors, but Mesiden C2 grade tile glue should be used on warm floors with changes in temperature. For ordinary mortar interior walls, Mesdien C1 tile adhesive can be used to lay glazed tiles with high water absorption, and Mesiden C2 tile adhesive can be used to paste vitrified tiles.
